TITLE:  Library Assistant

RELATIONSHIP:  Reports to the Librarian Is a member of the support staff

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • – Background in Library Science, LTA certification preferred
  • – Proficient in the use of technology

– Possesses excellent communication skills

– Interacts well with faculty and high school students

– Is creative

– Can work with minimum supervision

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  The library assistant works with the librarian to assure the smooth operation of the library.

WORK HOURS:    7:30 am to 12:30 pm on school days – Must be able to attend staff meetings

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student-related:

– Supervise students in the library

– Assist students who need a loaner Chromebook

– Maintain an atmosphere conducive for studying

– Supervise students during Seminar periods

– Assist students in locating print and non-print materials

– Assist students in utilizing databases for research

Faculty-related:

– Use teachers’ class assignment sheets to prepare resource lists

– Pull material per assignments

– Assist with A-V needs and set up for all-school Mass

– Administer make-up tests when requested

Financial:

– Send overdue notices to faculty and students on a bi-weekly basis

– Collect overdue fines and give to the business office

Statistical:

– Keep records of the number of students using the library on a period, weekly, monthly and annual basis

– Items available in the collection:  titles and number of copies

– Number of patrons utilizing the library

General:

– Check books in and out

– Place holds on books for faculty and students

– Catalog books – process and cover books

– Maintain inventory of library’s collection

– Repair books and magazines as needed

– Prepare displays in the library, in the corridor display windows and on the library’s bulletin boards

– Make recommendations to the librarian for books to be purchased

– Laminate items for faculty, staff and students

– Read shelves and straighten books

– Keep reading areas in good order

– Other duties as assigned by the librarian
