Clinical Practice includes both the pre-clinical and clinical experiences that are required of any candidate seeking State of Illinois licensure as a library information specialist. Clinical experiences allow the student to put into practice the knowledge gained from course work. Students complete pre-clinical and clinical experiences in a variety of school library settings.
Objectives for candidates participating in the clinical practice in school library media are:
- to gain practical experience in elementary, middle, and high school libraries;
- to identify areas of strength and areas for continuing improvement; and
- to develop professional attitudes and effective interpersonal relationships in the school environment.
The Coordinator of Clinical Practice works closely with each student to secure placements school libraries that will afford rewarding learning experiences.
